Yinong Liu, M.D., Ph.D
Board Certified Hematology & Medical Oncology
Associate Member, American Society of Clinical Oncology
Dr. Yinong Liu is a board certified oncologist and hematologist with more than 20 years of clinical experience and a Ph.D. in molecular biology. He joined the team at Commonwealth after a three-year stint as a Clinical Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Liu was an integral part of NIH drug trials on prostate cancer patients diagnosed as "metastatic" ? that is, those whose cancer has spread and are unlikely to recover using traditional treatments. The trials involve drug combinations designed to inhibit the formation of new blood vessels in the cancer, cutting off the "lifeblood" of the disease itself.
Dr. Liu completed his residency in internal medicine at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University, where he served as Chief Resident at the Johnson City Medical Center. While there, he received the Dr. Thomas Ronald Award for Excellence in the Care of Cancer Patients. Dr. Liu served as a Clinical Fellow in Hematology at Shanghai Medical University's Zhongshan Hospital, where he was also Chief Resident and was honored with the Dr. Rolin Honor Student Award for Outstanding Performance in Clinical Rotations. His research experience includes seven years as a graduate student and post-doctoral Fellow in biochemistry at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He is the author of numerous publications and abstracts on cancer treatment.
Dr. Liu and his family reside in Danville.
